If there are still heavy frosts, wait. If the buds are activating and the tree is showing strength, then it is time to begin work.

The first question is clear: does your bonsai need repotting? Not all of them do. Repotting unnecessarily can weaken the tree. If the substrate is very compacted, drains poorly or the roots are emerging from the bottom, it may be the right moment. If you repotted last year and the tree is healthy, it is probably not required this year.

If you do repot, remember this: roots first, then leaves. Renew the substrate, remove any damaged roots and apply Zokamin Roots to stimulate new root growth and ease adaptation. To reinforce the new environment, you can apply Zoka Tricofung to activate soil life, together with Zoka Policarbol to provide organic matter and improve root structure.

When the tree begins to respond properly, we enter the growth phase. Apply Zokamin Spring to activate budding in a balanced way. You can reinforce this with Zokamin Kitosan x3 to stimulate the tree’s natural defences at the start of the season. If the green loses intensity or you wish to prevent deficiencies, use Zokamin MicroFe+. If you are looking to improve overall vigour and strengthen the trunk, apply Zoka Microsintol, supporting development without forcing it.

Later on, once the tree is strong and has completed its first flush of growth, you may stimulate a more controlled second flush with Zokamin Second Budding, adjusting growth without losing structure.

In addition to repotting and fertilising, March is a good time to remove dry branches, make small styling adjustments and adapt watering. As budding increases, so do water requirements, always taking care to avoid waterlogging.

Keep this idea in mind: roots first, then stability, and finally growth.

If you get it right now, your bonsai will begin the season with strength and balance.

See you in the next video, where we will show you how to use each of our products.
